Round Barn

A few summers ago my family and I took a trip on Highway 66 and visited Arcadia, Oklahoma to see this historic Round Barn. We homeschool and are from Oklahoma and love to see the sights in our home state.  The barn was built in 1898, by William Harrison Odor and with help from members of his family and neighbors.

Mr. Odor believed building the barn round would protect it from tornados.

 The barn is 60' in diameter and 45' in height.

Admission is Free!

The barn is two stories high, the lower level was for livestock and the top story was for barn dances and other special gatherings.  Today the lower level is a museum and gift shop and the top story is rented out for weddings, receptions and parties. 

In 1988 the roof collapsed, it took local citizens four years to raise money and repair the barn.

Oklahoma is my home state and I have to say I am proud to be an Okie!

Canton Texas-Flea Market

Last  September  my daughter, sister and I went to Canton, Texas for First Monday Trade Days. It is the world's largest outdoor flea market/ craft fair. It was such an enjoyable experience and one I want to do again! It takes place the  Thursday through Sunday before the first Monday of every month.  Every month there are 7500 booths full  of furniture, crafts, collectibles, antiques, clothes, jewelry, holidays and so much more. There are two sections, one with new items and the second section is the flea market. Both enjoyable. Some of the booths were inside but most were outside. Some of the items I bought: a black Christmas tree, a cast iron dutch oven, and a silver heart pendant, see what I mean about having a little bit of everything!

Helpful Hints:
Wear comfortable shoes and clothing
Take a bottle of water
Buy or  borrow a cart to carry all your packages
Take snacks
Go early morning, not as many people
You can't see it all in one day

We stayed in the best bed and breakfast named Mt Pisgah's Tara Bed and Breakfast.  It was clean, well stocked with toiletries, food, dvd's everything you may want or have forgotten. When we plan another trip we will definitely try to stay here again.

My sister has celiac disease and they even provided food suitable for her.

There were two bedrooms, each with two twin beds. There was also two full baths.
