Homemade Weed Killer

Tired of buying expensive weed killer? Try this homemade solution, it really does work!

Homemade Weed Killer

Spray bottle

20 ounces Apple Cider Vinegar

2 Tablespoons Salt

dash Dawn Soap

Homemade Window Cleaner

I have been seeing Homemade Window Cleaner on Pinterest and being tired of spending too much on Windex, I decided to give it a try. I purchased 2 spray bottles and a squeezee.    I mixed up the cleaning solution in one bottle and plain water in the other. I spray the cleaner on my window and use paper towels to clean the window, then I spray regular water on the window and squeezee it and dry it with paper towels. You could use a rag that can be washed and reused. You could skip the step with plain water but I found it left my glass and windows gleaming. I am very happy with the results and don't plan on buying Windex again!

Homemade Window Cleaner

2 cups water

1/4 cup white vinegar

1/2 teaspoon dish detergent ( I used Dawn)

Recycle and Help Others!

It is amazing how many recyclable bottles and cans my family produces! One  of the ways I have found to recycle them is  the Greenopolis recycling kiosk. You sign in, receive an awards card, (which you scan each time you recycle) scan each bottle or can and deposit them into the machine. After you have finished depositing you get points that can be used for movie tickets,  restaurants, hotels etc. I use a kiosk at a grocery  store I frequent so I don't make an extra trip, just take my recycleables when I go to do my grocery shopping. The best place to recycle your paper is a one of these Paper Retriever dumpsters. They can usually be found in schools or church parking lots. You simply pull up deposit your newspapers, magazines, paper and others get the rewards. Better than filling a landfill. They don't take phone books and never deposit anything with your personal information on it. They also have a location site on their web site. http://www.paperretriever.com/

Both of these would be great ways to teach children the importance of recycling. Let them be responsible for keeping everything sorted. Let them decide which place you want to take your papers and let them see how their points add up and where they want to spend them. They may even be able to collect items from elderly relatives or neighbors, great way to connect and help others.

Pineapple a Welcoming Gift

A fresh pineapple is a great gift for neighbors, relatives and friends that have food allergies, diabetic or watching their weight. If you don't have time or want to bake or craft something for a special teacher, pastor, or Sunday school teacher, consider giving a pineapple. 

Columbus discovered the pineapple in 1493 and brought it to Europe from the Indes. It became associated with the return of ships on extended voyages and an emblem of welcome and hospitality. You can buy them at a reasonable price and with a little holiday ribbon and a card they look very festive. Plus it is something your children can help with, let them make their own card, pick out the ribbon and help

 purchase the pineapples.

Oven Rack Tip

Have you found  that your oven racks don't slide easily after you clean your oven? This is a quick and easy tip to correct that problem. Take a small amount of crumbled wax paper, dip it in oil and wipe the metal part of the rack that touches your oven.  A quick fix for an annoying and possibly unsafe problem.

Freezer to Crockpot Helpful Hint

I have begun to stock my freezer with meals that can go straight from the freezer to my crockpot. All the recipes tell you to put the ingredients into a baggie and then your crockpot.

 

 I thought a better step would be to put the ingredients  into crockpot liners. The liners go directly in my crockpot  for cooking, none of the ingredients get lost in  a baggie. Crockpot liners are a great item to keep on hand, you can find them in the plastic wrap, baggie section at your grocery store.  I keep mine in my crockpot so I don't forget to use them. They make for a non clean up meal!

 

After I have put everything in the crockpot liner and twist tie it shut I
put the meals into baggies, label and freeze.

The meals are ready for me to pull out of my freezer and go straight into my crockpot.
Less mess and I can reuse my baggies.

Helpful Hint Crock Pot Liners

I buy crock pot liners, which are great, but then forget to use them! So now I store the box of liners in my crock pot instead of in a drawer. Also, I go ahead and place one in  my crock pot so it is ready next time I use it. Problem solved!

Take Along Recipe Planner

Have you ever found a grocery item on sale and wanted to make a favorite dish, bought the item, got home and realized you forgot another item the recipe called for. Or had a family member call you while you at the store having a craving for a special dessert, think you remember everything you need to buy only to get home and find out you didn't remember everything. Well I have and it's frustrating!

 I came up with a solution. 

I use a index card binder, which I covered with scrapbook paper. I don't write down the recipes but the ingredients I need for favorite recipes. Then if I find pumpkin on sale and want to make Pumpkin Crunch, I can make sure that I have all the ingredients when I get home. 

It has 4 different colored sections, I use one section for desserts, one for meat dishes, one for vegetable dishes and one for misc. So if I am at the store and develop a craving for Stromboli I can go over my list to make sure I have all the ingredients. I even go thru my cards and make my menu for a week and use it to do my grocery shopping.

Frugality

Several years ago I was talking with two friends, who I will call Friend A and Friend B. Friend A and her husband were both very careful with money and we were discussing how crafty they both were. Friend B told Friend A that she was  frugal. Friend A didn't know if she should be insulted or not because she didn't know the meaning of the word. We explain to Friend A that it was not an insult and she was not cheap but a good steward with their money. After we explained it to Friend A she felt much better and received the compliment graciously.
