Homemade Ice Cream is a great way to celebrate summer. This recipe reminds of the white fluffy clouds of summer. It is light and creamy, not heavy and easy to make.
Growing up we had a hand crank ice cream maker. My mom would get everything ready, cover the ice cream maker with towels, then the fun would begin. My dad would have me sit on the maker and then him and my siblings would take turns cranking. It seemed to take forever. But it was worth the wait and is a great summertime memory.
Ingredients:
1 quart milk
1 pint half and half
2 (14 oz) cans sweetened condensed milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
Ice
Ice Cream Salt
Mix all ingredients in the ice cream canister and place in ice cream maker.
Alternate with ice and ice cream salt in your canister. Add more ice and salt as needed.
Start your machine, mine quits when the ice cream is ready. Follow your manufacture instructions. Your ice cream needs to sit for at least 30 minutes before opening canister. I wouldn't advise pouring the left over salt and water down your drain but rather on some unwanted weeds.
Some of our favorite toppings:
Fresh Strawberries
Fresh Peaches
Sliced Bananas
Crushed/Broken Oreos
Store bought mini pies
Whipped Toppings
I couldn't decide and used all three fruits!
I will be posting this to Tempt My Tummy Tuesday and Foodie Friday and
The Gluten-Free Homemaker
This looks delicious & is a good reminder for me to break out my ice cream maker and make some homemade ice cream!

We got an ice cream maker this summer and have really been enjoying it. I like the new kind that doesn't use ice, but it doesn't make as much ice cream. Thanks for sharing this as part of Gluten-Free Wednesdays!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had an ice cream maker. I might look into it for summer. Your recipe looks fabulous!
